2 Years! Already?!

I just had to post a little something here for today. It’s already been two years since I started this thing. I remember sitting in my apartment trying to stave off of homework, ironically, which is exactly what I’m doing right now. I remember seeing some really awesome posts and thought, wow, maybe I could do that. It would definitely save me from studying from this test that I have. And so, that’s how it happened. And from then on, I was able to escape to here whenever I became stressed. It was actually really therapeutic. I could say whatever was on my mind at the time, and I would feel better for saying. No matter if anyone read it or not.

It was something for me, something where I could just write down my thoughts so that my head wouldn’t explode. But then I realized that I’ve been going about this the wrong way. It doesn’t matter what I would post, because it’s just another post in a sea of endless thoughts, memories, goals, poetry. The real gem was reaching out and getting to know some of the other people on here. I feel like I probably mention this way too much, but I’ve learned a lot more about myself through the writings of others.

I remember a lot of my earlier posts would be just complaining, complaining about things that didn’t even matter. However, when I got to read some of the other posts out there, I immediately realized that I could have it worse, so much worse. It really put into perspective what I am thankful for, no matter how small or insignificant it may be. Time is the most precious gift, words from the heart were the best medicine. Anyways, if you are reading this, YOU, you are the reason that I still come back to this website 2 years later. Even if you’re one of my regulars [looking at you pouringmyartout], or if you’re just stopping by because of a random post that you had some sort of connection with. The Lucid Dreaming one seems to be a hit…I’ve seen a lot of WP accounts start, then die off and then just disappear and it does feel like I’m losing a bit of myself, especially if I ever had the opportunity to exchange words with you.

I make it a point to get back to every person that has either followed, commented, liked because I think that it’s important that if you took the time to reach out, why don’t I have the time to return the favor? Anyways, thanks for all the support everyone. Those awards that I received…all from you. To me WP awards don’t really mean too much, but just the fact that someone took the time to nominate me for my mediocre writing (ha!) is what really means the most. Which is why I do them, so that I could get recognition back your way. Life is good on this end, I wish the same for you on yours. Just have to remember that happiness is the journey, not the destination. Keep being awesome! [Also I just realized this is my 90th post, good way to end to years with a even number :P

Blog of the Year Award!

It’s been just a bit over a year since I started this blog, and I have to say it was worth it. I remember sitting at my desk, exploring every possibility of pushing off studying for a test I don’t even remember the class for. I thought that it would be interesting being able to write about things that were on my mind, as a sort of escape, not just from studying but also from everyday life. A place where I could put down thoughts, dreams, worries, and escape from the harshness of everyday living. I never really thought that things I wrote would impact others, since most of the time I would just write about things that only I thought I had troubles with.

sonder

But I was wrong, boy was I wrong. My topics started off pretty generic, but as I began to write about things that mattered to my heart I began to find other readers, writers, and scholars that walked that same or similar paths as I had just begun to walk. The things that I felt were big ‘problems’ in my life, were in reality, nothing at all. In short, to sum up the one thing that I learned this past year, is that of perspective. Putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and realizing how blessed y0u are. That it can always be worse. Much worse. And for anyone reading this, I would like to extend that gratitude to you. Because it is you, who have given me this perspective and allowed me to realize that everything that you do matters. Even the little things.

That sounds so sappy, haha, but I don’t care. It’s a new year, new beginning! SO, onto the main point of this post, I would especially like to thank Wilhelmina, and Nina for nominating me (twice?!) for The Blog of the Year Award! Like I mentioned, when I first started I thought that I would be writing these things down for my own record, something to look back at years from now. I never really expected people to read what I wrote, and this award shows for that. It really does mean a lot receiving this award from these two fantastic writers. So thanks again!

An so, the rules:

1. Select the blog(s) you think deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award
2. Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen – there’s no minimum or maximum number of blogs required – and ‘present’ them with their award.
3. Please include a link back to this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award – and include these ‘rules’ in your post (please don’t alter the rules or the badges!)
4. Let the blog(s) you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the ‘rules’ with them
5. You can now also join our Facebook page – click the link here ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award Award and then you can share your blog with an even wider audience
6. As a winner of the award – please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award – and then proudly display the award on your blog and sidebar … and start collecting stars…

And so in no particular order:

Secondhand Thoughts – The resolute and placid photography has many a time transported me to another place. It’s all about the escape for me, and here I am able to find what I long for.

Quiet One – One of the blogs that has really stuck out to me lately. If you’re looking for perspective, look no further. You may learn a few things on taking things for granted.

Lady Barefoot Baronness – Lady BB has been one of the constant people to encourage me since the start. Words do mean a lot, especially coming from a stranger. And she definitely has a way with words. Kind of like chicken soup, for the soul!

Trying To Know Thyself – Every post is either thought provoking, or super intellectual. She has made me think every time with what she has to say. Almost afraid to visit, since everytime I check WP I’m pretty braindead :P

Doorway To Amaranthia – Has a way with words. The poetry that I have managed to read have all been superb and multi-lateral. Not many people can do that with words, and I admire that.

Green Paw-Paw – Always has in-depth reviews of the latest literature, and I have actually been introduced to some awesome books as a result. “Monsters do not behave themselves – that’s the whole idea!” ;P

Deep Thinkings – The name says it all. If I could only write half as decent as mrprose…haha. New Years resolution maybe? Another awesome blog on finding perspective.

Unlost in Translation – One part diary, one part observation, and all parts critical thinking. If only I could travel as much… :)

Pouring My Art Out – One word. Photoshop. I don’t know how many times the pictures that I have found on there have made me chuckle. And in the good old fashioned clean comedy kind.

iliketheworldfuzzy – Hilarious! Little Blind Girl is always one to bring in rather outrageous stories, one that combines humor with every day life despite the minor inconvenience that her eyesight may bring. Absolutely hilarious :D

And there we go! I know there wasn’t any requirement for the descriptions, but I thought I’d share how all of these blogs have come to support me, with all of their fantastic writings. It’s absolutely the least I could do. So hears to you, and to a new year! As always, I’m always looking forward as to what the next year will bring.

One Year

Wow, it’s been a little over one year now since I started this blog. I have learned absolutely a lot, just from writing about things that have been on my mind at one point or another. I’ve probably learned a lot more just about the world around me than any school can possibly teach. I know it probably sounds like a stretch, but that’s what I got out of it.

One year ago, I was in a totally different place with other things that were plaguing me. I was in a house, living in a little closet of a room, living day to day. Always worried about the possibility that in that next semester I might have to go home if I didn’t get an EA slot that would have allowed me to continue on that path of becoming an officer in the Air Force. Living in a house of people that didn’t really know what it meant to be a true friend. They always preached the word, but they never practiced it. No one’s perfect, but realizing your faults is way more mature than pretending that you don’t have them.

But I realized that if I wasn’t able to somehow talk about the things that bothered me, it would destroy me from the inside. I didn’t really care that maybe no one would care to listen, it was all for myself anyway. I still sometimes go back and read the posts that meant a lot to me and it sometimes does bring me to tears (you didn’t hear that from me by the way). Not only was I able to get those things off my chest, but I also found out that I’m not the only one that has things to worry about. I met a lot of unique people, saw things through their perspective and realized that, yes, I have problems. But nothing’s going to change if you just wallow in your own self pity.

I have the opportunity to change myself as well as encourage the people around me. So why not use that gift that God has blessed me with and start making a difference? I tell myself this everyday, but even just the little things can make such a huge difference. A smile, taking those few extra seconds to hold open that door for somebody, little things like that. You can change someone’s life, you have no idea.

The news today only seems to point out tragic stories of murder, kidnappings, rape. Why is it always those things that tend to put a damper on one’s attitude towards life. There’s such a good side to life, but it can be hard to find if all we are exposed to are stories of war, death, and famine.

So if there was one thing that I learned in the past year, that has affected how I view life as well as carry it out is that no matter who you are, you absolutely can make a difference. It might not be world changing or nobel prize worthy, but being able to save someone in some way you could never have expected, is worth more than anything. So just know that you are more than one person in a world of 7 billion. It just depends on how you want to make your impression on those around you.

Don’t let those smiles fool you. I’ve found out that more often than not, the happiest people are the one’s that truly need someone to talk to. They always go out of their way to make others around them feel better, but no one ever aks them if they are ok. No one would ever guess. Be yourself, observe those around you. If someone needs help, never turn a cold shoulder towards them. These are all things that I’ve learned. And all with the help of one art teacher that I had back as a kid. I found this in my planner from middle school over the summer:

Today, one of the most beloved teachers at our school passed away. He was the only teacher that ever tried to talk to me about my problems and aspirations; and he inspired me even when I felt hopeless. He constantly struggled with severe health problems, but he was still one of the happiest/funniest people I knew. But he didn’t die from health complications; he committed suicide this morning. Why?”

One of the many people that helped me as I was going through struggles as a kid growing up. It’s really burned into my heart knowing that he went out of my way to set me straight. And to carry out his kindness, it’s been a personal goal of myself to carry on that legacy that he contributed to my life with. His encouragement really helped me to become the person that I am today, and his passing will not be in vain.

So I just want to thank you all for being with me for this long. I just hope that I was able to make some sort of impact on you as you all have had on me.

My Attempt at Poetry

The pale moon floats in the sky

I wake up in the dead of night

These are the nights that I despise

Where there is no hope, no light

It is always Dark

Countless thoughts

Afraid I’m the only one

In this struggle

That can not be won

It is always Dark

Desperate, looking for hope

Unlike the man on the docks

I search for Solace

In the glowing box

It is always Dark

What is so important

About the ills of One

I am nothing but a lie

Hiding a heart nearly gone

It is always Dark

But in the fires of a forge

Impurities are banished

And if not for my self

Then maybe for others

May I be a light

[So I’ve been trying to clean up my room (which should have happened a long time ago) and I happened to find this in one of my notebooks that I had saved from high school a couple years back. I’m pretty sure this was my Language Arts notebook…It definitely wasn’t the Math one (It’s too beat up to tell what’s written on the cover :/). Anyways, it seems to be something that I wrote while our class was on the topic of poetry. So there you have it, one of my first attempts at poetry…Please, don’t laugh too hard.]

On Windy Days has been tagged

So. I’ve been tagged by Miss Addie from Betwixt and Between. At first, I had no idea what being tagged was. I just figured it was…actually I didn’t know what it was. Haha, but thanks for the tag! And I will try my best to answer the questions with something that will give a little more insight to who I am. So Addie, here you go.

But before we get down to business, here are the rules:

  1. You must post the rules.
  2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and then create eleven new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged.
  3. Tag eleven people and link to them on your post.
  4. Let them know you’ve tagged them!

So now here are the things Addie wants to know about me:

1. What is the weirdest question you’ve ever been asked?

I’ve had quite a few…however I can’t seem to remember any of the good ones. But the most recent one that I had was of this man who wanted to know which High School I go to. Ok guy. I’m in college first of all. And does my university apparel not give enough clues as to where I go?? Well, I guess it’s a good thing that people think I’m younger than I am, better than it being the other way around.

2. Given the choice of time travel, would you go back in time or forward?

Whoo boy, well if I had a choice like that I would want to go back in time. I would give anything to see what I was like when I was little and from another point of view. I would also want to see my family as they were when they were together. I think it would have been a really peaceful setting. I wouldn’t choose to go forward in time because I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future and I would like to keep it that way. Keep it a little surprise, if you know what I mean.

3. What is your favorite late-night snack?

Ice cream. I love ice cream! But usually I don’t have the money to buy luxuries like that…Ima poor college kid!! One thing though, that ice cream may be the best thing as it enters my mouth but I feel like trash the next day. Nothing a little workout can’t fix though right?!

4. Tell us your weirdest dream.

I’ve had quite a few weird dreams. And this might be considered cheating…but this one takes the cake for the most recent weirdest dream:

I was Superman…for a second.

5. Describe the perfect date.

Hmm, well the perfect date huh? I think this perfect date would entail just a good evening of hanging out. I couldn’t care less about what we did but as long I was with that person, that would be perfect for me ;)

6. What song is stuck in your head?

as well as…

7. What is the best way to develop a positive attitude?

The best way to develop positive attitude is knowing that you are worth something. You may not know it, but there is always someone that looks up to you as an example. That one took me a while to figure out but knowing that I (out of all people) am a role model really changed my views on how I should conduct myself. Not only that but just appreciating all of the little things life throws at you. You could be in such a worse state than the one you’re in now. You could have to struggle to survive everyday, knowing that food is not always a guarantee, that the home you may have now at the moment could be a different place tomorrow. Just being able to read this post in your comfortable room/library/wherever you may be already puts you in the top percentage of the worlds population in terms of being in a comfortable living environment. Appreciate everything.

8. If you could invite four people-living or dead- to a dinner party, who would they be?

I would definitely want to invite Bruce Lee, Muhammad Ali, Martin Luther King Jr., and Steve Carrell (for some comic relief). I think that it would be great to have living examples of leadership. I mean yea, I can read about them all I want but it would be a totally different/awesome experience to actually have a chance to talk to them. Especially Bruce Lee, I absolutely love the philosophies that he holds towards living life. Such a shame that he had to go way too early.

9. Who is your look-alike?

I’ve had a few people tell me that I look like Jet Li. Haha, which is pretty cool but I don’t see that much of a resemblance. However, I am a huge fan of Jet!!

My Hero!!

10. What is your answering machine away message? If you don’t have one, you can make it up!

beeeeep…”Hi there. This is Simon speaking. I’m home right now, and in a moment, I’ll have a decision to make. Leave your name and number and I’ll be thinking about it…” Hahaha.

11. It’s said that you learn something new every day. What did you learn today?

I learned that it’s good to take a break every once in a while. I’ve been just a little stressed this past week. Heck this past month. And I’ve actually had a chance just to relax a bit, talk with the family, hang with friends. You would be surprised how much something as little as that can help to pick you back up so that when the storm comes again, you’ll be ready.

Here are the people I would love to know more about! :

  1. Royal Bums
  2. The OC
  3. Barefoot Baroness
  4. olivianp
  5. bittercharm
  6. Maiya
  7. thacourtjester
  8. nocturnaldaydreams
  9. Sanchari
  10. purposefullyawkward
  11. demonsking19
And last but certainly not least, to a very kind person:

And here are your questions:

  1. Well, since you’ve been tagged…that obviously means you have a blog. What led you to create it?
  2. What country are you from, and if you had the opportunity what country would you like to visit?
  3. If you were an animal, what kind of animal would you be?
  4. What is the last book that you read, and did you enjoy it?
  5. What is the one greatest piece of advice that you have had the opportunity to receive from someone?
  6. If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional. With whom would it be?
  7. If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?
  8. If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title would be?
  9. How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
  10. Who has had the most impact in your life?
  11. (Hehe) And how did you first find this blog?

Well Addie, hopefully you enjoyed that! Those questions really took a bit of time to think about but great questions nonetheless :D

Fresh Start

Every body has a way of expressing themselves. Whether it’s by writing poetry or taking photographs, playing sports or creating art of any sort. Every body has their own little niche, something that they enjoy doing. Something that they find solace in…a way to capture emotions and to share it with others. Anyways, I don’t really know where I’m going with this, maybe because it’s way past my bedtime?? Just kidding…I’m a big kid now, no need for diapers anymore! Haha.

Well, I remember now what I was trying to get at. For me, I find comfort in something that is of my own making, as many others do. Whether it’s their written works or athletic accolades. But for me this is a little something that I intend to get better at.

Avatar was one of my favorite shows from being a kid, and I just thought I’d share it here. However, I am glad that I’m still on break at the moment…otherwise I probably would have focused a little too much time on this than other, more important things ~school *cough *cough. Anyways, hope you enjoy! :D

The Versatile Blogger

Hmm, so I want to give many thanks to Glamorholic for nominating me for this award. Glamorholic and I have been blogging since the same time and she was the first person that actually read some of the things that I wrote. Actually every single thing, come to think of it. So I want to thank her for that and for having a blog that has the most interesting facts/images you can possibly find. (I wonder how many times I can hyperlink her blog…)Anyways, I had no idea that there were even awards for blogging…For the most part, it’s been just me complaining about how creepy my roommates are and how Artic-frigid my room is. But hey seeing this after coming home from the brutal campaigns that I’ve waged against my finals was a bit of a nice surprise. That and all of a sudden there are people reading my posts…What is this sudden turn of events that I am witnessing???

Oh, I also wanted to extend that gratitude to alphabravoecho for the nomination. He always posts about what’s on his mind. No holds barred. Another writer that is an inspiration for me to keep writing and be true to myself. I’ve noticed that a lot of the things that I write are in either of two categories. They are either my attempt at being funny…or really things that I’ve put some thought into (this usually happens when it’s windy outside) and I’ve always been in conflict whether I should post those words that have come directly from the heart. Before meeting alphabravoecho, I would usually type up something that really had meaning to me but would end up just erasing it for fear of being turned down and ridiculed for being ‘soft’ as some would say. But one thing that I’ve learned from alpha was that just be true to yourself and it doesn’t matter what others think, because you will always find support in the places you least expect. (P.S. I’m not soft, loving to write is not synonymous with being soft you mothers!!)

Once more, I’d like to extend that thanks to Wilhelmina Upton. She was kind enough to nominate me for this award as well. She is definitely one of the kindest people that I have had the chance to meet on wordpress. The first thing that came to my mind when I was reading through her posts was this saying that I remember; that the kindest people are the ones that have suffered the most. Now I might be totally going out on a limb, but the more posts that I read and the more that I got to know about Wilhelmina (which is not her real name by the way :P ) the more in common that we just seemed to have. And it really made me think about who I am, and what it took for me to get here and just the struggles that I overcame, to have this beautiful hope in this life that we have to live. And I can only imagine what it took her to gain that unparalleled kindness and humbleness that she wields. Anyways, that’s my little spiel on you Wilhelmina! I thank you once again for the nomination :)

Another thanks to Tanya over at Green Paw-Paw for the nomination! I had just recently run across her blog when I should have been studying for some finals a couple weeks back. Shame on me. However, the fact that she likes Bone makes her totally awesome haha! She definitely takes delight with everything that is literature and that adoration emanates from her posts as well. Whether she writes about the latest book, book trends, book muggles, anything book related; she is able to deliver that excitement through her words. Which I feel is a hard thing to do. Every post is very open, easy-going, and often humorous. Before you know it, one just leads to another and that time just flies away. But in a good way! Anyways, thank you once again for the nomination Tanya, and I will definitely be around for more :) “And that’s another thing! I’m tired of stew! I want to put him in a crust and bake a light fluffy quiche!” – ;)

Here are the rules for the Versatile Blogger Award:

  1. Nominate 10-15 fellow bloggers
  2. Inform the bloggers of their nomination
  3. Share 7 random things about yourself
  4. Thank the blogger who nominated you
  5. Add the Versatile Blogger Award Pic on your blog post.

So here are my nominations(In no particular order, all are equally as amazing!):

Alright, hmm, so 7 random things about me that no one knows huh…

  1. I was born in Stuttgart, Germany. My dad was in the Army so we really got to travel a lot. Too bad though that I don’t remember any of it since I was just a baby.
  2. The first animal that I actually ‘hunted’, was a rabbit by my house. It was with a pellet gun and being only 10 at the time, I felt really bad that I killed it. So while crying, I dug a grave for it and put a little cross on top so that it wouldn’t have to pass away in vain.
  3. I love to laugh…so much that I woke myself up from sleep just last night, from laughter. Probably because I was thirsty, and maybe even a bit stressed out because of the impending wave of finals. But why would I laugh though?
  4. On my bed right now is a massive mink blanket of a lion. It’s kind of weird at first but hey, it keeps me warm. Plus you got to do what you can when your house is colder than your refrigerator.
  5. I guess people that know me well say that I don’t say much and can keep to myself, but in reality I love being around them. Even though I may not have everything to say, just being in the company of friends really does wonders for me.
  6. I actually created this blog to not have to face the reality that I had a test to study for. It was one of those bad decisions that actually did more good…overall. I still did well on the test haha. But, I was able to meet many people with so many different things to say, so awesome.
  7. I love listening to music, it is one of those few things that can directly speak to my soul. I don’t really have a favorite genre and if you looked at my playlist and took a random sample it would cover genres from classical to drum and bass. The only other thing that is very influential in my life is my love for God and His love for me. If it wasn’t for the big man up there, I wouldn’t be here.

So there you have it. Thanks once again Diana, for the nomination!

Milestone?

Why I created this, I don’t even have a clue. At the moment, I have a mountain of homework to my right, a pile empty granola bar wrappers to my left and enough motivation to breathe. Out of all the pointless time consuming activities I could’ve chosen, I decided to make a blog…big mistake. After hours of trying to come up with a username, I was finally able to get one that wasn’t taken. God, finding a username that you actually want to use is like trying to find cultural awareness in your Computer Science professor. It just ain’t gonna happen. Customizing the blog took even longer. And even after messing with a bunch of settings and coming up with a nice little picture for the heading, I feel a second grader could’ve done better. All they would’ve had to do is smash the keys on the keyboard and maybe even drool a bit and it would’ve automatically been better. Anyways, I made this mostly for myself because sometimes things happen where you just stand there and wonder… And I wanted to record those things so that years from now, I could look back and see how much things have changed including myself. So if you’re down for the impending chronicles of an average person. Sit back, relax, and be prepared to waste precious homework time…Like I already have.
