On Windy Days has been tagged

So. I’ve been tagged by Miss Addie from Betwixt and Between. At first, I had no idea what being tagged was. I just figured it was…actually I didn’t know what it was. Haha, but thanks for the tag! And I will try my best to answer the questions with something that will give a little more insight to who I am. So Addie, here you go.

But before we get down to business, here are the rules:

  1. You must post the rules.
  2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and then create eleven new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged.
  3. Tag eleven people and link to them on your post.
  4. Let them know you’ve tagged them!

So now here are the things Addie wants to know about me:

1. What is the weirdest question you’ve ever been asked?

I’ve had quite a few…however I can’t seem to remember any of the good ones. But the most recent one that I had was of this man who wanted to know which High School I go to. Ok guy. I’m in college first of all. And does my university apparel not give enough clues as to where I go?? Well, I guess it’s a good thing that people think I’m younger than I am, better than it being the other way around.

2. Given the choice of time travel, would you go back in time or forward?

Whoo boy, well if I had a choice like that I would want to go back in time. I would give anything to see what I was like when I was little and from another point of view. I would also want to see my family as they were when they were together. I think it would have been a really peaceful setting. I wouldn’t choose to go forward in time because I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future and I would like to keep it that way. Keep it a little surprise, if you know what I mean.

3. What is your favorite late-night snack?

Ice cream. I love ice cream! But usually I don’t have the money to buy luxuries like that…Ima poor college kid!! One thing though, that ice cream may be the best thing as it enters my mouth but I feel like trash the next day. Nothing a little workout can’t fix though right?!

4. Tell us your weirdest dream.

I’ve had quite a few weird dreams. And this might be considered cheating…but this one takes the cake for the most recent weirdest dream:

I was Superman…for a second.

5. Describe the perfect date.

Hmm, well the perfect date huh? I think this perfect date would entail just a good evening of hanging out. I couldn’t care less about what we did but as long I was with that person, that would be perfect for me ;)

6. What song is stuck in your head?

as well as…

7. What is the best way to develop a positive attitude?

The best way to develop positive attitude is knowing that you are worth something. You may not know it, but there is always someone that looks up to you as an example. That one took me a while to figure out but knowing that I (out of all people) am a role model really changed my views on how I should conduct myself. Not only that but just appreciating all of the little things life throws at you. You could be in such a worse state than the one you’re in now. You could have to struggle to survive everyday, knowing that food is not always a guarantee, that the home you may have now at the moment could be a different place tomorrow. Just being able to read this post in your comfortable room/library/wherever you may be already puts you in the top percentage of the worlds population in terms of being in a comfortable living environment. Appreciate everything.

8. If you could invite four people-living or dead- to a dinner party, who would they be?

I would definitely want to invite Bruce Lee, Muhammad Ali, Martin Luther King Jr., and Steve Carrell (for some comic relief). I think that it would be great to have living examples of leadership. I mean yea, I can read about them all I want but it would be a totally different/awesome experience to actually have a chance to talk to them. Especially Bruce Lee, I absolutely love the philosophies that he holds towards living life. Such a shame that he had to go way too early.

9. Who is your look-alike?

I’ve had a few people tell me that I look like Jet Li. Haha, which is pretty cool but I don’t see that much of a resemblance. However, I am a huge fan of Jet!!

My Hero!!

10. What is your answering machine away message? If you don’t have one, you can make it up!

beeeeep…”Hi there. This is Simon speaking. I’m home right now, and in a moment, I’ll have a decision to make. Leave your name and number and I’ll be thinking about it…” Hahaha.

11. It’s said that you learn something new every day. What did you learn today?

I learned that it’s good to take a break every once in a while. I’ve been just a little stressed this past week. Heck this past month. And I’ve actually had a chance just to relax a bit, talk with the family, hang with friends. You would be surprised how much something as little as that can help to pick you back up so that when the storm comes again, you’ll be ready.

Here are the people I would love to know more about! :

  1. Royal Bums
  2. The OC
  3. Barefoot Baroness
  4. olivianp
  5. bittercharm
  6. Maiya
  7. thacourtjester
  8. nocturnaldaydreams
  9. Sanchari
  10. purposefullyawkward
  11. demonsking19
And last but certainly not least, to a very kind person:

And here are your questions:

  1. Well, since you’ve been tagged…that obviously means you have a blog. What led you to create it?
  2. What country are you from, and if you had the opportunity what country would you like to visit?
  3. If you were an animal, what kind of animal would you be?
  4. What is the last book that you read, and did you enjoy it?
  5. What is the one greatest piece of advice that you have had the opportunity to receive from someone?
  6. If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional. With whom would it be?
  7. If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?
  8. If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title would be?
  9. How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
  10. Who has had the most impact in your life?
  11. (Hehe) And how did you first find this blog?

Well Addie, hopefully you enjoyed that! Those questions really took a bit of time to think about but great questions nonetheless :D

The Liebster Blog Award

I want to take a few minutes to thank Sanchari for being kind enough to nominate me for this award. This was definitely one of the first awards that I saw floating around here when I first started putting up posts. And it’s an honor to be the recipient of another award. Yes, I know that the awards are given out by others writers (amazing ones at that) in the wordpress community. But just knowing of people who had received awards such as these, I could only hope to be in their shoes one day as a writer that others could relate to. Now about Sanchari, hmm. She has a very creative mind and it shows in her posts. Not only that but you can see it in her work that she features occasionally from post to post. The title of her blog has the word ‘serious’ in it, but the first thing you feel upon reading her posts is that she is a very carefree, laid back person. Now this is just from my own observations, so Sanchari if that is wrong feel free to punch me haha. I know that usually most thank you’s aren’t this long, but I feel that if someone took the time to pick me, out of such an amazing group of writers, for any kind of award, I feel that the least I can do is recognize the person in turn. So there you go Sanchari! Thanks once again :D

I would also like to extend that gratitude to mjthecreator over at her blog Unlost in TranslationShe is a traveler, both in body and mind. From what I have read, she is a person that is intent on finding what makes life worth living. It’s about the experiences you have and the people you meet that shape your views on a life worth living. And that is what I am constantly reminded of every time I stop by. It’s about finding out what kind of person dwells within you. That the choices you make do not define the person you become, but what you do with those choices that add to the multi-facets of our complex inner being. Sometimes, it’s really hard to come up with a response because she is on an intellectual level higher than what I could hope to understand, but I still try anyway ha! :D And most importantly, what I got from reading through her posts is that they are more than just words on a screen. They are a window into someone else’s experience of the same world that we live in. Oh how the world is the same, but viewed through different lenses how different it can also be. So thank you for that nomination MJ. I never forget friends!

Now for the Award:

Liebster is German & means ‘dearest’ or ‘beloved’ but it can also mean ‘favourite’ & the idea of the Liebster award is to bring attention to blogs with less than 200 followers all in the spirit of gathering more connections

  1. Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.
  2. Reveal your top  picks for the award and let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.
  3. Post the award on your blog.
  4. Bask in the love from the most supportive people on the blogsphere – other bloggers.
  5. And, best of all – have fun and spread the karma.

I guess there wasn’t a set limit to how many you could pick…So my picks are (in no particular order!):

11 Questions (for me?)

1. What is your favorite book?

My favorite book of all time (well I guess it would have to be a series then), are the Harry Potter series. Ha! Call me a child, but these were the first books that really transported me to another world as I was growing up. It really helped to cope with the stress of being in the middle of a divorce. I wanted so much to receive a letter to go to Hogwarts when I turned 11 so that I wouldn’t have to deal with the real world. Foolish me huh.

2. Your favorite film?

Favorite film would have to be The Departed. You know I did’t really like Leonardo DiCaprio, but after seeing a lot of his stuff recently, I think he’s a really talented actor. Great Gatsby was pretty good too actually. As was the book.

3. Do you have any nicknames?

None.

4. Do you play any musical instruments?

I used to play the trumpet when I was in high school. But that was really it though. I think if I would have learned the guitar, that would have been nice too…

5. Have you ever had surgery?

No surgeries yet!

6. What’s your favorite food?

Anything really. Being a college kid, food can be rare ha!

7. What are you afraid of?

Failure. My parents have always had high expectations of me and it’s what keeps me going when times get rough. Although, I’m not perfect in any way and my parents are absolutely ok with that. The support they give me is amazing. If they would have just supported each other like that :/

8. What’s your proudest moment?

Graduating from Field Training exactly one year ago! I remember I posted about it, something about being really nervous and stuff. But I came out on top, and it’s one more step closer to being that officer in the AF!

9. Your favorite item of clothing?

My suit. Although, I don’t have too much of a chance to flaunt it haha.

10. Your favorite song?

Tough. My favorite song changes depending on what I’m feeling. At the moment it’s…http://youtu.be/iKdR7rko9mI

11. Favorite TV show?

The Office. I wish I could work at Dunder Mifflin. As a side job of course.

Well, Art of Stumbling, thank you once again for nominating me for the award. I know it’s really late, absolutely, but here it is! I’ve stopped by your blog a few times and the feeling that I get from your writing reminds me of myself (on some points of course!) Just the fact that your writing is able to invoke emotion in the reader shows that you have a talent for everything that is literature. We don’t often hear compliments about our accomplishments, so I thought that I would share that with you. You have reminded me that there is a certain beauty to life, even though we may lose sight of it at some point. Not only that, but that we all have our own stories. Just a few of the reasons that I continue this blog, to see that there are others that share this view. So thank you for that. And thanks again for nominating me! I am going to break the rules and stop here since I have some other posts to start penning! Hope all is well!

The Crows

No matter what you’re doing, what you’re trying to achieve, there will always be that one person that tells you that you can’t do it. That what you’re trying to accomplish is impossible. Well, have I got news for those people…You can accomplish what you set your mind to. Don’t let those debbie-mfing-downers get in the way of your dreams. You have those dreams for a reason, they are yours and no one else’s. It makes me furious that people I know have given up on their dreams because somebody told them that they couldn’t do it. And I’m not furious at the people that have given up, but to the people that led them to believe that they weren’t good enough to achieve their goals.

These people, these crows will always be there in your life. But I’m here to tell you that you are eagles. You were meant to soar, higher than any crow could ever hope to reach. You just have to keep your eye on the prize. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You can only go up from here. Yea, I make mistakes, I also may doubt myself from time to time. But I know that those are only temporary. And that I learn from those mistakes. But giving up on a dream, before giving it my 100%, that is a regret that I would not want to carry for the rest of my life and ultimately take to the grave. Knowing that I could’ve been something great, but didn’t because I did not realize that I had the capability of achieving those goals.

Another thing. I know that we all have different purposes in our lives. Why can’t some people respect that? Everybody has a different calling, a unique destiny that is set out just for them. But when using the religion card as a way of saying that what I’m trying to do is ultimately wrong, that really pisses me off. Basically saying that the sacrifices of my grandparents and great-grandparents in combat was just a waste of time and that they should have spent more time evangelizing or whatever basically just denounces everything that they lived to protect. It’s cool bro, that you heard from God that sharing the word is your calling. But no need to try and shove that down my throat when I already know what my calling is.

This stress has really been building lately and I know it’s really unhealthy to keep it in. Maybe I’m just too nice. But that’s not going to stop me from achieving my dreams, because we only live once. And please don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise, ignore them and accomplish what is set in your heart.

Am I wrong?

Nothing gets on my nerves more than people that try and make you live a life according to how they live theirs. I go to a church here on campus and I’ve been going for a little over a year. I have a member of the staff (which is just a recent college graduate that really had no motive to pursue anything beyond just graduating) which holds a bible study with me around once a week. At first he wanted to meet 5 out of the 7 days of the week, but there was no way I could do that with the busy schedule that I have.

Now to get things straight, God is a major part of my life. I wouldn’t be where I am right now if it weren’t for the blessings that I have received time and again. Now with these bible studies lately it’s been getting to be more of an interrogation of what I do everyday, who I hang out with, my schedule of what I do right as I wake up to right when I go to sleep. Not only that, but lately this guy here has been pushing me to spend more of my time trying to evangelize and be more like a pastor, and preach the word. I tried to explain that I’m here to get an education and to ultimately become an officer in the Air Force. But for some reason, he doesn’t seem to get how much sacrifice it is to be here right now both in terms of time and money. God gave me this opportunity to take what I have and make the best of it, but no matter how much I explain that school and ROTC is my focus right now he wants me to practically squander this chance and just further the ‘objectives of the church’.

I’m really confused right now, because no matter what I say he always has some bible verse or passage to denounce my goals and dreams. The more I think about it, the more it seems like a cult to me (this church). And I’ve never been in a situation like this before. It really sucks because I can’t argue with this guy. Basically everything I do is wrong, the people who I hang out with is wrong (and also he assumes that since they don’t go to his church that they aren’t true christians and aren’t saved and all of this nonsensical gibberish). Basically, just because I may hang around people that drink every once in a while that I’ll turn into a raging alcoholic or something like that. All I know is that my heart is right with God, but this guy is just really smooth and turning everything I do into something that will send me on a path to hell. Wow.

All I know is that God put this desire for me to help other people and to give my best in everything that I do. But what this guy says is that the ultimate goal is to spread to message to everybody and to become an evangelical preacher. What have I gotten myself into? Am I the wrong one? I miss the days where everything was simple…

My Reason, My Desire

Nice to see that wordpress changed up a bit in the short time I was gone. Wow! Thank you to everyone that has stopped by! Haha, just stopping by here totally made my day :D I’ve been just pressed for time lately and school has been keeping me a bit stressed, but what can you do? Some stress is good for you I guess haha. Anyways, I had a few minutes and I just wanted to share with you what has been on my mind lately. I just made this and I hope that you will enjoy!

Without the sacrifices of the men and women as these, we would not be here today. At least I know for sure I wouldn’t. Thank you once again for your amazing words of support! I’m going to have to keep this one short before I head back into the thick of things!
